EASTER PARADE

' Easter Parade" is the title of a musical comedy from 1948.Most of you who know me are aware that I'm a lover of old films. I have watched old Hollywood films all my life and am a devoted fan of TCM (  http://www.tcm.com ). Easter Parade is lavish musical that stars Fred Astaire and gay icon Judy Garland . Try and catch this film if you've never seen it . While this film was made in 1948 , the design is fantastic . You can learn so much about fashion , fashion history, color and style from watching old films. Since my work as a theatre designer I always find  film a great source of inspiration. When choosing your wardrobe, developing your personal style or dressing for an  Easter Parade  film design can be a huge influence. Many of the greatest fashion designers have also designed for film and stage.

Inspired Easter Fashions

Easter and spring go hand in hand. The real beginning of spring is the spring equinox but for me it's Easter. While you may or may not be walking in an Easter Parade , you may well be attending or hosting a family meal, You may also be going to an Easter egg hunt, attending church services, or meeting friends for an Easter brunch. Easter weekend is a holiday that celebrates rebirth and spring is the season of renewal.

Spring Wardrobe Renewal

Therefore with Easter in mind let's apply that idea of rejuvenation on our spring wardrobes. While it may be up for some debate to me spring is the season that allows the most options for dressing. Since in many regions you may still need a sweater or jacket , be able to wear long or short pants and be comfortable in lightweight or heavyweight skirts and dresses spring is very flexible. 

Easter Parade of Color

Since spring is the season that flows seamlessly into summer our options are even more plentiful. To me I enjoy the spring colors , pastels and neutrals. Hence the palette for spring is fresh  and cheery, the S/S2017 shows also showed bright neons. The color trends for this spring are pink, yellow and our pantone color of the year "greenery." I like to encourage as you invigorate your spring wardrobe you try and stay away from black. While black is any easy go to it implies a more winter and fall feel. Therefore choose other neutrals like beige and khaki, or even navy as substitutes for black.

Easter Parade of Patterns

S/S2017 is strong on patterns. Especially relevant are florals and stripes. From Gucci ,Valentino, to Rosie Assoulin and Calvin Klein florals and stripes have stolen this spring and have awed fashionistas . Include gingham and polka dots and this season is one of the most patterned we've seen in years. As a result you will need to look at adding pattern to your wardrobe awakening.

Easter Parade of Shoes and Bags

One of biggest trends of any season are shoes and bags. Therefore it's the perfect time to access what shoes you'll want for the coming season. Whether it's sandals like the great flatforms from Erden , Marc Jacobs and Guccic's platforms or mules and slides 2017 has them all. Since there is such a large variety of footwear this season you'll have to choose carefully . First of all look at what you have that may work  , once you have a plan don't waiver. Shoes come in many price points spend the most on more classic designs or a favorite pair. Wardrobe planning is a skill that must be worked on. We all have those expensive missteps in the back of the closet

Finally in addition are handbags . I leave the best to last . Handbags come in every style and variety this spring. It is my opinion that classic handbags almost always make sense. Therefore add to your collection of classic bags by with a piece or two each season . If you must have an on trend bag consider H&M or Zara and save the bucks for those statement bags that will last .
