AADHE CLOTHING
AADHE CLOTHING presented on Wednesday the 9th of October at VFW SS20. Certainly, if you have been following my reviews of Vancouver Fashion Week, you may tire of me talking about diversity. However, it is a theme that is so important in today’s society. Looking at the culture of Canada, I am so proud to celebrate our multiculturalism. Therefore, another talented designer is in the spotlight, this time of South Asian ancestry.
Toronto, Canada is home to a large Indo-Canadian community. Designer and founder of AADHE CLOTHING, Aman Gill is a Canadian born member of the Punjabi community. In fact, her street-style brand is a combination of her Canadian and Indian cultures. Her love of Toronto street-style started young, and mixing of both of her cultures came naturally . Furthermore, in a city like Toronto you also have the influences of Caribbean, African and a potpourri of other ethnic influences. AADHE literally means half in Punjabi , half west half east.
AADHE CLOTHING
“NEON NIGHTS ” ON THE RUNWAY.
I remember as a child watching an Indo-Canadian wedding party from the sidelines. As I peered through the open door I was awed and mesmerized by the brilliant colors. This memory was made so vivid by the rainbow spectrum I still recall. Who else can mix vivid canary yellow with turquoise and make it work.
The inspiration for this collection comes from the Punjabi wedding party and the summer EDM (electronic dance music) festivals. Both of these colorful vibrant events are exhilarating in their own ways. Vibrancy, movement and joy are certainly parts of these celebrations.
I could see from my front row seat at Vancouver Fashion Week that as the first model took to the runway a magical spectrum of brilliance shone. At fashion week in a crowded room I was transported back to that wedding party so many years ago. Gill makes minimal clothing intricate by the use of color, accessories and prints. Embroidery and patterns help open an enchanted world to the viewers .
The color palette is truly a rainbow. The choices of fabric range from traditional Indian fabrics to chiffon and tulle. Tunics, mini skirts and harem pants are only some of the distinct choices of garments. A dynamic party vibe has taken over the room.
Street-style is a term that means just that, and these garments can take you from Coachella to the main street . The cross-body bags add a needed hip element. While, hanging tassels from the models heads give us an ethnic component. In conclusion, I could only wish that there were a few more pieces in this exciting collection.

WHAT’S HOT
While you may or may not follow the latest trends, no one wants to look like yesterdays news. I get all the latest fashion magazines on line and read them religiously. Therefore, I’m usually “au courant” on whats HOT. However even I get caught off guard every once in a while. Certainly, I missed the latest trend of the cape! In fact, a cape is certainly a statement piece that may not be for everyone. A cape can be a classic addition to a woman’s wardrobe, and can be staple piece that will take you year to year. Therefore it’s great to strike while the iron is HOT. What the oversize puffer coat did for last winter the cape will do for this one. You don’t have to be a super hero to take on the variety of capes available this season .
