ARTEMISIA HWANG GIVES FASHION DRAMA, VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

ARTEMISIA HWANG

Artemisia Hwang presented her collection on Thursday the 10th of October VFW SS20. Artemisia Hwang is a Chinese/Canadian student who studies in Italy. Certainly, this again is a powerful statement on diversity at Vancouver Fashion Week. While starting her fashion career as a model Artemisia finds her love of fashion can be combined with her need for expressing herself creatively as a designer.

I am so excited reading Hwang’s bio that she has a love for history, nature, architecture and classical music. Certainly, in previous times it was essential that a well-rounded student study all the arts and sciences. In my opinion, a great fashion designer needs to be knowledgeable in history, art, and humanities. Certainly being able to draft a pattern and cut a dress is important. However first you need to have something to say and the more knowledge always helps. Inspiration is the birth of the idea.

ARTEMISIA HWANG on the RUNWAY

Us fashion lovers could once be described as Gothic black ravens picking at the corpses of those who dared to wear color. Gladly we have moved on from the days when we gathered fashionistas were asked: “Who died?”. The nineties died darling. Now all black makes a statement again and can stand for more than just an easy fashion choice. Certainly, in the hands of Artemisia Hwang black is strong, bold and dramatic.

This is a collection that is about the juxtaposition of darkness and light, the drama of black is lightened by textured and airy fabrics. An organza shrouded black dress creates an original silhouette echoed throughout the collection. Gauzy, woolly, shiny, matte, tell a textured tale of sophisticated powerful women who can make bold fashion choices. These choices include an audacious scarlet red dress that wins the night.

Certainly, my accolades go out to this creative designer whose unique vision, shows her love of fabric and design. There is dignity in the garments Hwang presents. Artemisia shows a reverence for clothing seldom seen in such a young designer.

WHAT’S HOT

Darling’s if Fall is the season of minimalist style the holiday season is about excess. Now that November is here I can finally mention the holiday season without being pilloried. While today is only the beginning of November last night I saw my first Christmas lights of the season. Since I am getting ready to start my shopping for the season I also need to contemplate donning my gay apparel.
However, my dears it’s not the suits and velvet jackets that get me excited. It’s those fabulous party dresses that I can recommend to you.
