HOW A QUEER BOY STOLE THE SHOW
I’m a queer boy. Vancouver Fashion Week ended on Sunday night with a bang. Having been to all seven nights of Vancouver Fashion Week, I had yet to see any controversy . However Sunday night opened with an outrageous show that may have been controversial to some.
A young graduate from Blanche Macdonald Centre stole the show. Peter Zuk of Haus Zuk opened the evening with an exciting exhibition that included queer imagery and non-binary fashion .
HAUS ZUK
I sat in my front row seat and was thrilled to see the exhibition that unfolded at my feet. In fact, I mean literally at my feet, then a 7′ ft drag queen tossed her patch-work fun fur coat on my lap. I howled. I was surrounded by the designers family, and they hooted ,and screamed, as a club scene that took over the runway. The crowd Sunday night had been infiltrated by some Zuk’s supporters, friends and family and they got the crowd going. Furthermore it helped to create an atmosphere that was reminiscent, of my once early mornings at after-hour parties, and raves. However, this old Queen rarely stays up past midnight these days. It was thrilling!
THE QUEER BOY WHO STOLE THE SHOW
Zuk has taken a fun and fantasy approach to his designs, exploring his days in the cos-play community .For those who are not in the know cos-play stands for costume play and comes from the originally Japanese pop culture phenomenon where participants become characters. In fact, the usual influences come from anime, cartoons, comic books, manga, live action films, television series and video games. Cosplay characters often switch genders or are gender neutral.
HAUS ZUK , presented a world of colorful fun fur , masks ,harnesses and queer stereotypes . The bears who wear leather harnesses became sexualized child-like teddy bears . The drag queens strutted in thigh boots ,with legs for days, lip-syncing for their lives, (like the best of Ru Pauls Drag Race contestants).
QUEER BOY SEXUALITY
What really stood out in the runway show by Zuk, is we are all more use to seeing gay and queer imagery, but gay sexuality is still hidden. Therefore the political message of two burly men with bare asses kissing still shocks .
LGBTQ community who have supported Zuk , have good reason to celebrate this hot young designer . “Overdose” is Peter Zuk’s first collection, and he has me waiting to see what comes next.
HOW A QUEER BOY STOLE THE SHOW AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK
Darlings I grew up and went to school in a time where queer people had no rights and were abused. Therefore it sure makes me happy to see Haus Zuk not only accepted but cheered on by a certain cross-section of society. We may not be able to present Peter Zuk’s extravaganza at the Super Bowl yet, but we are on the way.
WHAT’S HOT???
Darling’s let me tell you I feel all uplifted and woke by the above post. What also struck me about Haus Zuk the was the sense of fun. I know some think fashion is a serious business and it can be , it also can be a lot of fun and joy . Therefore what is hot today are fun bags for spring and summer. Over the past few years where trends are less trendy and personal style is Queen fun funky bags have taken off . So my with that in mind my dears I have searched the web to bring you some fun quirky bags to add some fun to your looks .
