JORDAN KENDRICK S/S 2021
Jordan Kendrick showed her latest collection at Vancouver Fashion Week’s virtual S/S 2021 show.
No carefully arranged rows of seats. No audience donning their finery and hippest street style. No wide-eyed students showing their first collections to their first live audience. None of this because of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. However, what has arisen from these difficult times is a challenge, not a disaster. Vancouver Fashion Week under the guidance of its CEO Jamal Abdourahman rose to that challenge and presented a virtual fashion show for S/S 2021. Others also rose to the challenge, the designers, one of whom is Jordan Kendrick.

When I sit down to research before attending a fashion show I genuinely attempt to learn about the designers. Often I do not get the opportunity to contact them, but I do read interviews, visit websites, and read other media. I visited the website of Jordan Kendrick’s designs and discovered a wealth of visual information. What stood out to me was an appreciation and knowledge of art, culture, and history.
From a young age, Jordan Kendrick knew she was meant to express herself with her unique point of view thru creative expression. She received a Bachelor’s in Apparel Design from the Art Institute of Portland and hit the ground running on something she could call her own. She recognized the demand for clothing that is produced in a way that is unique, and sustainable.
The approach to her eponymous label is creating made-to-measure clothing with universally flattering silhouettes that withstand the test of time. Excerpt from the Vancouver Fashion Week website.

My enthusiasm for fashion is seemingly undimmed, I have watched fashion pass through so many trends, minimalism, maximalist, boho, retro military, and the rest. I love the inventive, the unique, and the outrageous. However, I also love and appreciate the designer who does not follow or aim to set trends but creates beautiful classic clothes. One of the things I always remain intrigued by is the designer who knows their client. Jordan Kendrick is such a designer.
Kendrick’s S/S 2021 collection is entitled ” Art school Girlfriend”. ” My collection “art school girlfriend” is a vibe on creative ladies and influencers with a professional Pacific Northwest street vibe. Painterly print and silky silhouettes that feel elevated and approachable for everyday wear.” As told to Marilyn R. Wilson in her insightful interview.

THE COLLECTION
A bright pink palette is grounded by black and ivory neutral pieces. The garments on the runway have a natural ease and movement. Satin and silky finishes contribute to the coziness of the clothes. These garments are imbued with a playful cheerfulness. It would be hard to feel dour in a dark raspberry floor-length dress that gives the impression of your favorite loungewear.
This collection comprises nine outfits with an array of pieces. Kendrick covers all bases giving us jumpsuits, day dresses, several long dresses and more, make a capsule collection that looks like a modern chic wardrobe. A bright, fresh print is a unifying element, bringing together the entire the collection. This dazzling print is used most effectively in a jumpsuit that sparkles under the lights.
These are clothes that can be worn on the streets and also (hopefully) to a party. The candy pink jumpsuit and long column dress are glitzy and scream “”go out on the town”. A standout piece is an ivory off the shoulder maxi dress whose beauty lies in its elegant simplicity. The overall effect is a casual, sophisticated collection that uses luxurious fabrics to make a modern woman comfortable and fashionable.

IN CONCLUSION
Jordan Kendrick is a label that ticks all the boxes for the modern woman of today. This collection presents a variety of clothing that takes today’s woman through the day into the evening with style and grace. “My design aesthetic is luxury casual. I create timeless wardrobe staples from fine European textiles. The fabrics I use are limited in quantity, so I use made to measure tailoring. I focus on creating silhouettes flattering for all body types,” says Jordan Kendrick.
