MEL ELEGANCE SHINES WITH SOPHISTICATED RESORT WEAR AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

MEL ELEGANCE

Mel Elegance designed by Melissa Yin presented a collection of sophisticated resort-wear at Vancouver Fashion Week. While many of you know of resort wear, it is it’s sophistication and luxury that Melissa Yin captures in this collection.

In fact, Resort wear is a clothing style, as well as a year-round fashion “season”. Sometimes known as “cruise wear”, it used to be collections only for very affluent customers who were expected to spend the post-Christmas/New Year’s weeks in warm-weather climates. However, due to high rise in travel and easy access to flights Resort wear/ cruise fashion has become a more major clothing category.

Certainly the days of steamer trunks, and long overseas cruises are mostly things of the past. However, my love of  luxury fashion is so satisfied by Mel elegance. However the clothing it’s self speaks to the future with a elegant nod to the past.

WHO IS MELISSA YIN – MEL ELEGANCE

Melissa was born in China and moved to Canada in 2012. As a child, she always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. Melissa studied Fashion Design at LaSalle College Vancouver, from where she graduated in 2017 with a diploma, Best of Show award, as well as Dean’s Honor Roll recognition.

MEL ELEGANCE PRESENTS

‘Celestial’

Tuesday night at Vancouver Fashion Week , started off with “Celestial” a collection inspired by a summer spent in Alaska at Delaney National Park. In fact celestial means looking skyward and heavenly, in the case of this collection both seem relevant. If you have ever seen the northern lights or experienced the great vast northern sky the amazing colours are extraordinary. This collection gives credence to the colours of that sky and the beautiful colours of a natural summer. Pinks, and reds are the colour backbone of this collection and are joyfully accompanied by yellow, blue, white and corals sometimes grounded by black. Furthermore the colour story is  emphasized by airy, flowing fabrics that glorify natural beauty.

MEL ELEGANCE

Certainly the colour palette spoke to me, however as well as colour, silhouette is always the key to any collection. In this case many of the silhouettes are loose fitting, that are flowing and uncluttered with needless details . As well as flowing other silhouettes  have clean straight lines, elegance is often coupled with simplicity . Here two dresses one in gold the other in red epitomize the comfort and ease associated with resort wear. In fact resort wear is often designed with relaxation and comfort as predominate features.

While the idea of travel is now common place, luxury travel has it’s own unique clientele. What Mel Elegance does best in this collection,  it gives an array of options for comfortable luxury travel clothes. This collection is a map on how to dress for travel with an assortment of soft flowing garments perfect for the resort or cruise ship.

Furthermore what we have is a wide selection of pieces . There are bathing suits , lounge wear, pants and tops with an assortment of dresses taking you from day to evening. A trio of three white outfits are fresh , young and feminine with guipure lace work and chic simple lines.

MEL ELEGANCE

Perhaps what sums up the minimalist luxury resort-wear of Mel Elegance best is the final colour sweep on the runway. In fact the red, pinks, salmon and coral are an expression of pure elegance. Certainly the red garments are the most structured and embody a sensuality that comes from the crimson red.

MEL ELEGANCE

Every year Pantone a colour marketing company sets the colour of the year. In fact many factors are considered in colour trend prediction, social, political, economic , and more. Each season the team at the Pantone Color Institute creates the Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report. This is a color overview highlighting the top colors fashion designers will be featuring in their collections for the upcoming season.

For this year Mel Elegance is so on trend , firstly the color of the year is “living coral”, also incorporating a range of pinks and corals. This is what I loved most in this collection, the flowing lounge wear and  wrap coats all in various shades of pinks. Here the designs and colours are coupled in rich sensual looks.

Besides, the charming colours many of the collections’s best items were wardrobe basics: the perfect wrap coat, a simple elegant red dress, a good cropped pant, and a nice series of flowing robes.

IN CONCLUSION

I have traveled in my life but in no way am I a luxury traveler. However, I always love to dress for dinner and have chic clothes to wear. As we all seem to travel more, the prices for cruises and luxury resorts are often an affordable way to having a relaxing vacation. Therefore more and more we need the services of fashion lines that cater to our often out of season travel.

That’s exactly where Mel Elegance comes in , with a wide variety of options for resort wear.  I always encourage the purchase of smaller designer brands or custom made. Who wants to go to that special dinner, on a cruise or at a resort and see someone else in the same outfit. Therefore I encourage you to seek out the lovely resort wear of Mel Elegance and at the same time support an up and coming designer.

Thanks to Vancouver Fashion Week for the support in bringing you these show reviews.

WHAT’S HOT

Melissa Yin has given us a fabulous collection of stylish elegant resort wear. To support the garments presented by Mel Elegance I’ve decided to choose resort accessories as What’s Hot. Since travel clothes and accessories are often chosen partly on how the pack, I recommend accessories that can double up for many outfits. In this case you can define your looks with bags, jewelry, sunglasses and more easily transported items. Most of all darlings, dress for fun and style while vacationing, and remember;

“The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.”
