MONSE WINS BIG AT CFDAs

Monse wins the Swarovski award for Emering Talent. The Council of Fashion Designers Of America Awards was held June 5th at the Hammerstein Ballroom  in New York City. Under the chairwoman Diane Von Furstenberg the CFDA gave out it’s annual awards .In fact  Seth Meyers did a great job hosting  the event and a star studded red carpet attended the 16th annual awards.  There were some notable presenters including the cutie pie rocker Jon Bon Jovi who honored his friend Kenneth Cole. Incidentally Cole received the Swarovski Award for Change. Furthermore along  the same political vein , Gloria Steinem, Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards and actress Janelle Monae were honored for their involvement in the Women’s March on Washington. In my opinion politic’s and fashion share some mutual ground, however darlings I came for the  pretty dresses .

THE FASHION AWARDS

Designer Raf Simmons of Calvin Klein scored a rare double win at the glittery awards ceromony on Monday night. Actually this is only the second time that a designer has one both best women’s and mens wear awards. Congratulations to Raf and his team at Calvin Klein.

However what I was most interested in for this night was the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent. Of course those of you who know me know I am interested in new talent  and young up and coming designers. The winners of the award are Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia for Monse

MONSE – LAURA KIM & FERNANDO GARCIA

No doubt this brand may have started out small and grew, Since talent is the key factor in a new brand, these two designers had everything they needed to succeed. They quickly created a glamorous red carpet sensation with their label Monse.

However this is a  truly a great success story. With 19 combined years at Oscar de la Renta  they created Monse after  the great designers death. These two designers have risen  through the fashion ranks. Moreover they’re now also the creative directors at the storied American house of Oscar de la Renta.

THE MONSE LABEL

Arguably the old adage “less is more” could be applied to the Monse label. While restraint is not always my design aesthetic , I can always appreciate the use of it in others . The sheer beauty of simplicity is alive and well in the Monse label.

Since simplicity is key  to understanding this label . Moreover the lastest collection for S/S 2017  is so elegant and simple. Accordingly this shows us why they won such Accolades .

With one foot in Men’s wear  they created a hybrid of feminine and masculine. They sourced such a fountain of inspiration from pinstripes and suiting and the product is strong silhouettes in both pants and dresses.. While khaki cargos and pinstriped  slacks with wide proportions aren’t all new they fill out this brave collection. They moved into dresses and loose knits that are dripping in sequins . I want to share this collection with you all and see if you have the same reaction . A great collection and we will see Laura and Fernando also at Oscar de la Renta.
