FAVORITE COLLECTIONS
Proenza Schouler is my first entry in a new feature on” Dress The Part.” In this new feature I will present my thoughts on my favorite designers and brands .. Darlings I always have an opinion on fashion . I have designed, studied and followed fashion all of my life. Therefore I have an informed point of view and look forward to sharing it with all of you.
Introducing Proenza Schouler
First and foremost I will only write about designers and brands that I personally like. Therefore I open this feature with design label Proenza Schouler . Incidently I first discovered this New York based womenswear and accessories brand when they launched in 2002 . Moreover it was exciting to me when I first say the work of this brand . Actually it was several years after that I read an article about designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. The duo met while studying at Parsons School of Design eventually collaborating on their senior thesis . By and large this thesis became their first collection as Proenza Schouler. Named after the designers’ mothers’ maiden names, the first collection was bought in its entirety by Barneys New York.
Proenza Schouler Design Aesthetics
Proenza Schouler is defined by its fusion of craftsmanship and attention to detail with a sense of refined ease. Inspiration drawn from contemporary art and youth culture is combined with an emphasis on tailoring and the use of custom developed fabrics. What drew me to this label was their great cuts and patterns. These two designers create some of the most interesting silhouettes on the runway today .
Proenza Schouler S/S 2017
Since I have been a fan of this brand for a while I anticipated what the S/S2017 collection may offer. In fact I was surprised and delighted by the obvious use of color. After seasons of mostly neutrals, the bright primaries of their clingy ribbed dresses were like a wake-up call.
By the same token McCollough and Hernandez have always put an emphasis on handcrafts. Accordingly dresses were woven from leather; checked tops were trimmed with ostrich feathers giving a tribal vibe. In addition pleats play an important part in this collection Of course the pleats helped create exciting three-dimensional dresses and skirts. This collection featured playful, asymmetrical skirts along with strong graphics . Ultimately this collection had a modern and exciting feel. I love the use of the bold stripes and bright colors.
McCollough and Hernandez are leaders in the New York fashion scene. Proenza Schouler is an American design story.
