THE KNIT DRESS
Of course I always keep my eyes peeled for the latest trend. However where does the trend come from ? First is it the runway down to the street or from the street up. What I see as the latest fall trend is the knit dress. I have searched to see where this trend originated and and darlings this is what I found .
Certainly the long sleeved knit dress is everywhere and it’s trending began with Jacquemus , influencers , us bloggers and the street stylers. Furthermore retailers followed the crowd a bit and this easy to wear dress has caught everyone’s imagination. Therefore of course like the chicken and the egg thing who really cares. What I’m usually a bit skeptical about is orchestrated trends that seem to be forced on their sometimes naive followers . However here this is not the case.
The Knit Dress- How We All Love Comfort.
Certainly comfort may not always be the first reason to choose what you wear , but it often ranks higher than most others. In this case the knit dress is a sensible and comfortable choice. Moreover the streamlined silhouette is flattering to the figure and suitable from work to evening and everything in between.
When I think of Fall , I also think of comfort and coziness. Although I won’t be wearing a knit dress any time soon darlings, I certainly love knits . The knit dress is not a new thing and has had several incantations in the 20th century.
Woman’s knit dress: history and present of this type of fabric
Fashion is an attitude. Each garment, each fabric and each pattern identify and define us. With it, we create our first impression on others, as our image speaks for ourselves.
Over the years, fashion has undergone evolution’s both in the patronages and in the different fabrics that each season dress us. However, there is a type of fabric that season after season is still present: the knit.
You can find it in jackets, trousers or knit dresses. A very versatile type of fabric, one we can use to attend different events and highlight with a touch of elegance.
Origin of the knitted fabric
In order to talk about the origin of this type of fabric, we have to go back to the Europe of the XVI century. A time when the knitting industry made this fabric for the first time.
From this moment, they would begin to elaborate handmade fashion gloves, socks and handbags. Later on the knitting machine was invented exactly in 1589.
This invention allowed artisans to invest much less time in the production process of each garment. This fact change the production model and it would lay the foundation of the future industrial revolution.
Who designed the first knit dress?
So far this type of fabric was used only and exclusively for the production of men’s garments. It would not be until 1913 that an unknown dressmaker named Coco Chanel made the first knit dress. The young dressmaker began to market knitwear in her small boutique located in the town of Deauville. Hence providing the basis for what would later become a basic garment of our closets.
