BURBERRY THE “VERY” BRITISH BRAND

Burberry is a quintessential British brand . When I think of Burberry I think of all those very British country pursuits. In fact early inspiration was drawn from the styles synonymous with English rural activities – hunting, shooting, fishing. Therefore darlings it’s scones and tea, and cricket, and the Ascot ,and all things British.

BURBERRY’S DESIGN AND BRAND

Christopher Bailey hasn’t left Burberry yet. That will happen,  in December 2018. Certainly a move on from the company he has spectacularly transformed into a powerhouse. Moreover Bailey changed the brand over the first 17 years of the 21st century. Still only 46 years old, he’s acted as a game-changing pioneer in the time of the globalization of fashion. Certainly a revolutionary titan of industry who leapt to the forefront by harnessing every technical innovation that has hit the world in the digital age. Under his watch, a company formerly known as little more than an unexciting British producer of raincoats and checked scarves has exploded into the vast empire it is today.

BURBERRY NOW, AND IN THE FUTURE

Therefore Burberry today offers a unique point of view on heritage. Still they continue to celebrate the contradictions of a truly British identity. Similarly looking back to their archives and rich British traditions and examining them from a new perspective. A sense of the past reinvented with the spirit of now. Heritage yet modern, classic, yet unclassic.
Furthermore the future looks exciting and bright at this notable brand. Burberry is collaborating with punk-fashion icon Vivienne Westwood.  Surprisingly the British megabrand’s chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci revealed on his personal Instagram on Friday.

SPRING 2018 READY- TO- WEAR

Darling’s I’m  Canadian , however both of my parents are immigrants from England . Therefore this gives me a different perspective. While I have spent a lot of time in England I have an outsiders point of view. In fact this is exactly why I love this collection.

With its youthful, punk flair, the collection was a departure for the usually luxed-up Burberry .Moreover we saw worn-in graffiti-ed trenches, neat tartan trousers and riding coats. Similarly little skirts made from re-purposed military jackets.

That traditional Burberry check  made a comeback . In fact it appeared on oversize bags, the turned-up cuffs of long gabardine coats and baseball caps.

Knits  came in a riot of bright layers while fuzzy shearlings and plastic raincoats. Also long sheer skirts were dipped in delightfully artificial shades of mint, aqua and Pepto-Bismol pink. Furthermore I loved the lace dresses.

 

 

THIS IS NOT THE QUEEN’S BURBERRY

When looking for a classic trench this is still the brand to go to. However times have changed and a label can be more than one thing at a time.

When shopping for the most classic trench , most turn to this heritage brand. However they are more than just a raincoat company. Since the appointment of Christopher Bailey in 2001 , the expansion of this luxury brand has been exciting . Now the label faces new and more exciting times with Riccardo Tisci at the creative helm. I can’t wait to see the collaboration with Vivienne Westwood the Queen of Punk with one of the Queen’s favorite brands. Queen Elizabeth II granted Burberry a Royal Warrant as a Weatherproofer in 1955. Vivienne Westwood once dressed the Sex Pistols in tee shirts with Queen’s image with safety-pins going through the Queen’s lip.

The times have changed. I love the changes at Burberry , this classic brand becoming more relevant to the tastes of today. Therefore have a look at my selections , and learn some fashion history.
