PRIDE MONTH
Darling’s although Vancouver’s Pride Week is in July/August, International Pride Month is June. This morning I woke up to my coffee and my regular CBC news. I was shocked to hear a story about two lesbian women humiliated and attacked on a bus in London England. While, I hear so much about violence and hate through the LGBTQ media it rarely is covered by the main stream press. Therefore, that’s what gave this story even more impact.
However, at the same time as this is happening again, I am hearing about a group in Boston organizing a”straight pride”. I am almost never shocked by human being’s potential for ignorance and insensitivity, but this takes the cake. I myself have been the victim of a gay bashing more than once, but, I have yet to hear of a straight bashing. In 26 States in the United States of America, LGBTQ people can still be legally fired. Queers can also be denied, the right a place live or adopt children . Therefore, when I hear the ridiculous proposition of a straight pride, I realize how far we still have to go .

HOW WEARING RAINBOW SHOW’S LOVE AND SUPPORT
I know my followers , you and others support LGBTQ rights. I don’t think you’d be reading my posts if you didn’t. However, if you found yourself here and you have different opinions, you need to change. I have friends, family and colleagues of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Furthermore I love and accept them all, and they love and accept me Many of my straight friends have attended Pride parades and festivals and spoke up to others about LGBTQ rights. What else can people do to assist this movement, first follow political fights for rights, just because people have rights today does not guarantee them for the future.
Therefore, as Trump refuses to let embassies fly the Rainbow Flag around the world , 70 UN members states still criminalize same-sex relations. In five countries being LGBTQ is punishable by death in another 26 punishable by 10 years to life imprisonment. That’s why we still have a Pride parade.
When I worked for a government department, I came out to people at work. In fact many people who had never known an out gay man became some of best work friends. Helping people feel safe to come out is something everyone can contribute too. One of the most fun ways to support your LGBTQ friends during pride month is by donning your gay apparel. Yes my dear’s wearing a rainbow shirt, dress or other clothing is probably the most fun way to be supportive. Furthermore, it tells others you support the LGBTQ community, and you are a safe person for youth or others to approach.
