Darlings Happy Lunar New Year and welcome to the year of the pig. Since I live in Vancouver Chinese New Year is a big deal. While we all love the celebrations I think it’s fun to look at how fashion celebrates the year of the pig. First let’s explore what the Lunar New Year is all about .

Chinese New Year, is also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year. Furthermore it is the grandest festival in China, with a 7-day long holiday. As the most colorful annual event, the traditional CNY celebration lasts up to two weeks, and the climax arrives around the Lunar New Year’s Eve.

China during this period is dominated by iconic red lanterns, loud fireworks, massive banquets. In fact the festival even triggers exuberant celebrations across the globe.

2019 – The Year of the Pig

In 2019 Chinese New Year festival falls on Feb. 5. It is the Year of the Pig according to the Chinese zodiac. It features a 12-year cycle with each year represented by a specific animal. People born in the Years of the Pig including 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, and 2007 will experience their Zodiac Year of Birth.

Even though North Americans don’t celebrate the Lunar New Year, many call the Lunar New Year “Chinese New Year.” However, from late January to the middle of February, China, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore and many Asian countries celebrate the Lunar New Year as national holidays. Therefore the celebration may star in the sequel to ” Crazy Rich Asians “

FASHION FOR THE YEAR OF THE PIG

Since fashion is my go to , I’m interested in how fashion celebrates Lunar New Year. Certain things are evident to me for example red is the color for the Lunar New Year. Therefore many people celebrate by wearing red.

Furthermore Gucci , Armani and other designers have put the celebration into some great fashion.

Below,I’ve rounded up some of our favorite swine-themed pieces and lucky red to help ring in the new year. Act fast, because once the limited-edition pieces are gone. It’ll be 12 more years before we’ll be celebrating this perfect creature once again. (But don’t worry, I also sprinkled in some of my favorite year-round pig gear, too.)
