SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH JANDREW
Certainly colourful spring fashion is one of the best things about spring. However, the other thing I love about spring is the opportunity to get out doors. I’m a city dweller and love living in the city. Furthermore, almost more than any other city Vancouver is an outdoor paradise. I live about two blocks from English bay, downtown Vancouver’s main beach. I often kick myself for not getting there often enough. However Sundays are a time for me to get out on the seawall and walk, especially in the sunshine.
For my followers who are not familiar with Vancouver , here’s a great site https://www.tourismvancouver.com/
” A Sunday on La Grande Jatte” by Georges Seurat.
For those of you who don’t know me, as well as a fashion writer , I am also an art historian. Hence the title of this post “Sunday in the Park with Spring Dresses”. In fact the title is actually taken from Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George. It is inspired by the French pointillist painter Georges Seurat‘s painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
“A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. “
This painting is one of my personal favorites. It is part of the neo-impressionism school of painting. Indeed it gives a colour scheme for a spring day. Certainly, you can be inspired by most anything, however, this work of art has the light and quality of spring and summer.
Neo-Impressionism is a term applied to an avant-garde art movement that flourished principally in France from 1886 to 1906. Led by the example of Georges Seurat, artists of the Neo-Impressionist circle renounced the random spontaneity of Impressionism. They favor a measured painting technique grounded in science and the study of optics. Neo-Impressionists believe that separate touches of interwoven pigment result in a greater vibrancy of color in the observer’s eyes. Known as mélange optique (optical mixture), this meticulous paint application helps realize a pulsating shimmer of light on the canvas. The separation of color through individual strokes of pigment came to be known as Divisionism, while the application of precise dots of paint came to be called Pointillism.
MY SUNDAY AFTERNOON
HOW TO DRESS IN SPRING FASHION- COLOUR
Darling’s spring has sprung! While spring is the season about warmer weather . it is also the time of renewal and rebirth. Equally important, the warming weather revitalizes flowers, and plant life, bringing the outdoors back into colour. Therefore it’s time to add color and life back into your wardrobe.
Therefore the purpose of my look at the Georges Seurat painting is to search out your own colour inspirations. This fabulous painting gives a spectrum of spring colours, find your colour inspiration and follow it. Certainly every season has a colour palette put out by colour forecasters, fashion buyers and merchandisers, and of course designers. Therefore think about what colours look best on you and what’s on trend . Here is the Pantone colour palette for spring 2019.

In fact Pantone is recognized around the world as a leading source of color information. In particular they make seasonal trend forecasts. Equally important the Pantone Color Institute partners with global brands. Helping them to leverage the power, psychology and emotion of color in their design strategy.
While all of this is interesting, finding that painting, photo, music or anything that inspires you to find your colour palette and style.
HOW TO DRESS IN SPRING FASHION-USING NEUTRALS
Aim for bright colors and patterns to give your outfit some style. Light colors give a cheerful, happy, and fresh look to spring fashion. Dark colors, however, tend to feel like winter. Ditch the black and navy items and go for something yellow, blue, or green instead. Pastels are always a go to in spring fashion. Sea foam green, lilacs, and pale yellows add pop to any outfit. Imagine wearing the color at a picnic, or out on a walk in the garden, and ask yourself if the colors fit the scenery.
Stock up on neutral colors. Spring is all about color, but you need a good stock of neutrals to match things with. Neutral tops also carry over well into other seasons, making them a worthwhile investment. Therefore, neutral colors include tan, gray, navy, white, and brown and of course black. However difficult darling’s try and limit the black. In fact, try using white when you would normally choose black. Certainly all white can be a classy spring look. Moreover white can be dressed up with sweaters and accessories.
HOW TO DRESS IN SPRING FASHION- FABRICS
Aim for lighter fabrics. The increasing heat means you need to ditch the heavy winter clothes for something more comfortable. While cotton is always popular, you have several other options for spring fashion as well. Certainly people think of wool as a winter fabric, but there are light wools that are perfect for spring. Certainly, my dears keep it natural, choose silk, linen, and hemp. Moreover, lighter flowing fabrics are often used by designers in spring giving fashions more fluidity, movement and transperancy.

SPRING FASHION
In conclusion , spring fashion , is not so much different that summer fashion. While I had fun writing this post I wanted to point out that being inspired by something sometimes makes dressing more fun. We all have the idea that only designers need to be inspired , but each time you put a look together there is inspiration.
